I feel like I should spill some booze on the ground in mourning. I’ve been on Gizmodo for years, but I finally had enough. If only there was a way of blocking recommended articles on FP and IO9...

I guess I’ll be getting my tech news from Engadget and Ars Technica. Jalopnik is still my #1 choice for car stuff, I hope it can stay that way.

I de-gizmodo’d way back in the Diaz rant days. Still haven’t been back with any regularity.

fuckin’ Diaz. he killed it for me too. Sadly, Io9 has been awfully heavy on the giz shares since the “merger”

I deleted Engadget from my Feedly years ago because they had way too many regurgitated press releases.

The Verge is pretty good though.

I like Ars Technica and Motherboard. Plus, next week, we have Derek Mead from Motherboard on the podcast. He’s the editor in chief over there, and a huge car nerd to boot.

God I fucking hate that guy. I don’t hate many people, but he was so obnoxious and just wrong...

The cross-site sharing isn’t new, and affects all the main pages in the GMedia-verse.

Apart from the motorized tail thingy that should have stayed on I09, I didn’t see anything that wasn’t worthy of being posted to Giz.

Jalopnik has the same number of questionably/tangentially related articles.

I’m not criticising your decision though. You are free to browse as you please. I don’t know of any tech-news sites that don’t have some sort of agenda or bias. I feel like Ars is fairly even-handed on most things. The Verge is also mostly devoid of agenda, apart from Tom Warren’s incessant wishing for the untimely death of MS.

I added it to my bookmarks, I’ll give it a shot, thanks!

See, I did the same - I used to read Engadget daily but it got old. I’ll give them another chance, and I’ll try the Verge as well, thanks!

Like Hammerhead I stopped visiting Giz because of Jesus Diaz. Like you I also went with Engadget and though I already followed Ars Technica a bit, I did start reading more often. Both are more informative (Ars more in-depth) and less over-opinionated and it’s been a much more positive experience since.

The cross sharing has always been very annoying. There is a reason why I don’t visit Jezebel or Gawker, and I wish they kept my Gizmodo, Jalopnik, and IO9 free of that shit. Alas, they didn’t, and commenting on any of those became an exercise in futility.

As for the agenda, if Engadget has one, I never noticed it. Gizmodo stopped being a tech-news site years ago really.

Engadget tends to be very heavily Apple biased, at least from what I have felt and seen.

But as with any news outlet, when one knows the potential bias, one can find another source biased the opposite, then find the truth somewhere in the middle.

Is it sad we have to do that to begin with? Absolutely. Are too many people not cognizant of this? Yes.

I don’t have a problem with Apple bias or Android bias. I just don’t want super liberal political views in my tech news :)

I did the same thing.

I used to go there for tech news and gadget reviews. It’s not that anymore.

I don’t mind shared posts as much as I dislike the blatantly off-topic stuff (shared or otherwise). Gizmodo has a habit of posting things that have absolutely nothing to do with technology except that they were shared on social media. You could post anything on Facebook, and that would make it Gizmodo material.

Yeah, I’m one of those weirdos that wants to see nothing but history documentaries on The History Channel...

I feel you and I agree. Giz was so much better before, if you could ignore Jesus.

Engadget used to be really awful when Joshua Topolsky ran the place. I got really tired of all the biased, pro-Apple shilling they did.

You can use the Kinja Blocker Chrome extension and just block all the Giz authors or just the ones you don’t like.

Thanks! I might do it - my Chrome is getting slower every second with all the extensions but it might be worth it
